publicworks

Public WorksPublic Works is charged with designing and constructing an extensive infrastructure system for Westchester County. The department also provides oversight on many capital projects big and small and has a traffic engineering and safety program that works to prevent traffic accidents.

We maintain almost 160 miles of roads, including the Bronx River Parkway, the only parkway the county owns. (Most Westchester roads are maintained by local governments; the other parkways are maintained by the state.) We are also responsible for 86 bridges, 71 traffic signals, 29 traffic cameras, and all county government buildings.

We have many "green programs" including the replacement in county buildings of all traditional bulbs with compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs), the retrofitting of our vehicles with new fuel systems that burn vegetable oil and the expansion of the B5 biodiesel heating oil.

Whenever possible, we are available to assist your local city, town and village public works departments. We also have numerous Shared Services and Programs for local governments, school districts and other districts.
